Kirkerup kirke og landsby - Kirkerup church and village
Kirkerup Kirke er en af de ældste kirker på Roskilde-egnen og er opført i omkring år 1100. Kirken er specielt berømt for sine mange kalkmalerier, som anses for klenodier i både kirke- og kulturhistorisk regi. Specielt kan fremhæves "Moses i båden", "Mor Eva" og "Noahs ark".
Kirken har et romansk skib og kor (oprindeligt med apsis) af fråd-, kridt- og kampesten. Tårnet som er fra 1400-tallet, er bygget i højgotik af munkesten.

Kirken har, uden tvivl, lagt navn til byen Kirkerup. ”Kyrkethorp” er nævnt i et brev til biskop Absalon i Roskilde omkring år 1176.

I hverdagene året rundt vil Kirkerup Kirke være åben fra kl. 10-16.

LANDSBYEN KIRKERUP

Kirkerup Kirke is one of the oldest churches in the Roskilde area and was built around 1100. The church is especially famous for its many paintings both in respect of church and cultural history. The church in build in Romanesque style limestone and natural stones. The tower dating from the 1400s is built in the high Gothic style.
​
The church has undoubtedly given the name to the village Kirkerup. "Kyrkethorp" is mentioned in a letter to Bishop Absalon in Roskilde about 1176.
​
In week days all year round Kirkerup Church will be open from 10 - 16.
​
It is possible to book a guidet tour in the church for groups of max 20 persons and will last about 60 min. Please contact Hans Elmlund phone +45 2396 2695. Normally there are no tours in July and August.
